Acne Scar Treatments:
The best way to treat a scar is to prevent it and at Premier Dermatology we are experts in the treatment of acne. We offer the most up to date and state of the art medical and aesthetic therapies to control and treat acne. Still, many patients come to us bothered by old acne scars.
The treatment recommended will depend upon the type of scar(s) the patient has. Treatment options include:
Acne Surgery – surgical removal of an ice pick or boxcar scars
Subcision – releasing fibrous bands that cause rolling and boxcar scars
Skin Resurfacing with Frax1550, Platelet Rich Plasma – to stimulate collagen remodeling
Injection of Steroid – for thickened or keloid scars
Filler – to soften the appearance of scars
Laser Genesis – for persistent redness from acne flare-ups
Microneedling – standard microneedling +/- PRP (platlet rich plasma)
Subcision
Subcision is an effective treatment for acne scars. It doesn’t require any incisions to improve depressed scars, wrinkles, and cellulite. A small needle will be inserted into the skin beneath the scar then a cannula is introduced to loosen and break the fibers of the scar that connect it to the tissues underneath it. It will loosen and break the fibers of the scar that connect it to the tissues underneath it. This helps lift the scar and allows the depressed area to even out.
The subcision of the needle will also trigger collagen production in the dermis. Collagen will help acne scars disappear.
A subcision treatment can also improve scars from chicken pox, wounds, or surgery. Patients with hypertrophic or keloid scars may not be suitable for a subcision treatment and should explore other alternatives.

Skin Resurfacing with Morpheus8 or Fraxel Dual 1550
Skin resurfacing is another effective treatment for improving acne scars. We perform two types of skin resurfacing at Premier Dermatology, and the right option for you will depend on your skin and scar type.
Morpheus8 is a device that combines radiofrequency and microneedling technology to increase collagen production.
Fraxel Dual 1550 Laser Therapy, on the other hand, works by using targeted wavelengths of light to gently heat the skin and stimulate collagen remodeling.
Both treatments create micro-injuries in the skin tissues to stimulate the growth of new smoother and firmer skin. The difference between both devices revolves around the skin conditions they can treat and the results after treatment. During the consultation, you will get a recommendation of the best treatment for your skin type after a thorough assessment.
Platelet-Rich Plasma
Platelet-rich plasma is a different approach to treating acne scars. This treatment utilizes plasma and platelets in the blood that naturally help wounds heal. During your appointment, a blood sample will be taken. This blood sample will be processed in a lab to isolate the plasma and the platelet cells. The resulting PRP (platelet-rich plasma) will then be injected into the area for treatment, or introduced to the affected areas with microneedling device or post Fraxel.
