Can too much fat cause skin issues? Our skin plays many roles including temp regulation, protection, the production of melanin, as well as a conduit for our senses including touch, regulating temperatures etc.
Excessive fat can negatively impact the structure of these vital functions by:
- impairing blood flow which can increase the risk of skin infections as well as impede wound healing
- increases your risk for skin tags and psoriasis
- disrupts temperature regulation which can result in excessive sweating
- promotes the development of dark velvety patches on the skin linked to obesity
- promotes bacterial & fungal growth
Exercising is an effective way to lower excessive body fat that may contribute to these less than stellar skin conditions. Above is a list of some ways excessive fat can impede the vital functions of our skin. Below you’ll find the balance necessary for low body fat and healthy skin. Keep the burger, but move too!
